Condom award boosts Health Week preparations

The Forum has won another award. This time from a condom manufacturer. It's a success that bodes well for Men's Health Week in June.

The tool-kit produced for Men's Health Week last year has been 'highly commended' in the Durex 'Innovation in Sexual Health' Awards 2004. The theme of the 2003 week was sexual health and the tool-kit, which was given out at Ladbrokes betting shops during the week included a mini-version of the Haynes Sex Manual, specially written by Ian Banks for the week, a gym pass and, of course, a condom.

It was a timely boost to the preparations for this year.  'The 2004 pack is shaping up nicely too,' said the Forum's Men's Health Week coordinator Matthew Maycock. Who knows, it may even contain some award-winning items. The theme for this year's Men's Health Week is cancer and the Forum has signed up to the Clean the Air Coalition MHF set up by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH)  to campaign for legislation on smoking in the workplace and enclosed public places. Other members of the Coalition include the British Lung Foundation, British Cardiac Society, Royal College of Surgeons and Cancer Research UK.

MHF director Peter Baker said: 'The Coalition wants the government to recognise that the voluntary approach doesn't work and legislation is the only way to demonstrate a commitment to this problem.

More details of the coalition are available from ASH.
