Men talking about breast cancer

Healthtalkonline.org, the health website featuring patients' talking about their experiences, has a new section on male breast cancer.

Healthtalkonline CEO Graham Shaw said of the new section supported by the UK Medical Research Council: 'Many people do not realise that men can get breast cancer. However, around 300 men in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Because men make up less than 1% of new breast cancer cases, a man with breast cancer often has to deal with people’s surprise or disbelief, on top of the challenges anyone who has just been diagnosed with cancer has to face.

'This new site provides information on what it is like to have breast cancer as a man. It will be an invaluable resource for men with breast cancer, their families and health professionals. It is hoped that it will also help to raise public awareness that, although breast cancer is much more common in women than in men, it is not an exclusively female disease.'
