My role

malehealth.co.uk

Malehealth is the most comprehensive men's health website in the UK — and probably the world.

The award-winning free site (www.malehealth.co.uk), which is run by the Men's Health Forum, was designed in 2002 by pioneering Manchester-based webdesign outfit 8ml and will be redeveloped soon. You can download A4 posters to publicise the site in waiting rooms and other areas here.

Malehealth is aimed at males of all ages. At its heart is a Health A-Z section which covers common health topics in a clear Q and A format. It includes the Male Body - A User's Guide, an overview of every part of the male anatomy for beginners and The Toolkit- frequnetly asked questions about the male tackle.

There's an instant online health report and a home MOT health check. There's frank advice on lifestyle and stuff including information on men's favourite subjects: drink, smoking, sex, food and exercise. For those who want a more detailed work-out, there is an online gym including a fitness programme and regular Q and A column. On top of all that, there's news, features, statistics and links to useful books and other websites.

The best way to learn more is to check it out ourself. If you like the info on malehealth and would like to personalise or customise it for the men you work with, take a look at our malehealth portals service.

Men use the web for health info

The site, like this one, is edited by Jim Pollard. He explains the importance of the site to the Forum's work. 'The internet is the ideal way for men to access health information. You can do it at a time to suit you and it's completely confidential. Men's magazines are providing less and less health information while the mainstream media tend, for commercial reasons, to be obsessed with miracles and tragedies, breakthroughs and crises. Not a lot of use if you just want to know the basic facts about something that's worrying you. Websites like malehealth will become increasingly important. Our awards and continued traffic growth proves it.'
