My role
Congratulations to Steve Robertson who has been named Professor of Men, Gender and Health at Leeds Met University where he works alongside the Professor of Men's Health, MHF chair Alan White.
Steve worked in the NHS for over twenty years as a nurse and health visitor, before commencing a career in research in 1999. He now has over 35 peer-reviewed journal papers. His first book, Understanding Men & Health: Masculinities, Identity and Well-Being, was published by OU Press in Autumn 2007 and his second, edited text, Men, Masculinities & Health: Critical Perspectives, by Palgrave in Autumn 2009.
Steve has an increasing international reputation and has worked and produced publications with fellow academics, policy makers and practitioners from Australia, the United States and Canada and is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Men’s Health. He has has also acted as a consultant on gender and men’s health to the UK Department of Health and to WHO (Europe), has reviewed grants for various UK bodies including the ESRC and has recently sat as a Panel Member on the Swedish Research Council Evaluation Panel for Project Grants on Gender Research.
He is key player in the MHF's Health Information for Men project, leading the research phase.
