Age on trial at landmark Copenhagen conference in June

The European Men's Health Forum (EMHF) is teaming up with the European Patient Forum and the Danish Men’s Health Society, to hold Gender and Health through Life!, a two-day conference in Copenhagen to mark the Danish Presidency’s EU agenda of gender, equality and healthy ageing.

Ian BanksThe event, which will run 14-15 June 2012, is being organised with support from the Danish Ministry for Gender Equality. It will feature the Danish Minister for Gender Equality, Manu Sareen as keynote speaker and, once again, one of the EMHF's famous mock trials led by MHF and EMHF president Dr Ian Banks, right. This time, 'age' is in the dock. The popular format turns delegates into jury members in a mock-trial that raises the key issues in an amusing and thought-provoking format.

Gender health policies?

EMHF board member Dr Svend Aage Madsen, President of the Men’s Health Society in Denmark will chair and speakers from all the health organisations will present the challenges for men and women’s health in Europe. The two-day hands-on workshop will formulate recommendations which will then be published and presented to politicians and other specialists to help inform policy decisions.

The theme Gender and Health through Life will include gender equality and healthy aging, mental health and gender equality and gender specific strategies on patient-centred chronic disease management.

So far the draft programme includes speakers on these topics and parallel workshops as well as a panel of politicians and specialists and plenary discussions on the question: should we have special health policies for each gender?
