What did you do for MHW?

In the UK, there were well over 1,000 registrants. The theme was sexual health. This includes sexually transmitted infections, problems like erectile dysfunction (impotence) and prostate and testicular diseases. The Week did not just focus on medical matters: it also emphasised the importance of fulfilling sexual relationships for men.

Men's Health Week has been an established part of the national health calendar in Australia, the USA and Scotland for several years. It takes place during the week that includes Father's Day. This year, the international dimension was enhanced this time by the participation of Austria and Hong Kong.

2002 saw the inaugural NMHW in England and Wales, including a Westminster launch addressed by Minister for Public Health, Hazel Blears MP. A considerable amount of media coverage was generated by the sheer novelty of there being a national event dedicated to the improvement of men's health but the heart of NMHW was provided by the hundreds of local activities that took place up and down the country.

Barnet NHS produced a report on its week which is particularly useful as it also includes lessons to be learned for the future.
