My role

Got evidence of age discrimination in health?

Evidence is being sought of age discrimination in health and social care.

older coupleSecretary of State for Health Alan Johnson has asked Sir Ian Carruthers and Jan Ormondroyd to lead a national review of age discrimination in health and social care as part of the Department's work to support delivery of the ban contained in the Equality Bill on age discrimination against people of 18 and over in services and public functions.

The review will publish its report in October 2009 including recommendations on the timing of implementation of the ban and on those areas of age-based differentiation that should be maintained under the new law. It will also advise on how to support the health and social care system to implement the public sector equality duty in respect of age.

Jan and Sir Ian have issued a 'call for evidence' to health and social care organisations and other stakeholders which can be found here. You can send your evidence to agediscriminationreview@dh.gsi.gov.uk or to Lindsay Gardiner, Room 516,Richmond House, 79 Whitehall, London SW1A 2NS. Evidence is required by 3rd July.
