Comic book promotes 'green' health

One way of getting younger people interested in health is through their interest in environmental issues. A new publication coordinated by the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) aims to do just this.

Booklet coverChoosing our Future is an A4 booklet in comic-strip form focusing on the toxic chemicals to which we're exposed everyday.

Developed in France where comic books — or bande dessinés — are very popular, the four stories in the booklet look at plastics, pesticides, cosmetics and other chemicals and their possible effects on our health such as asthma, bronchitis, infertility, allergies, cancers and other problems.

'Chemicals are an integral part of modern life,' says Génon Jensen of HEAL. 'Even though they improve our daily life, some of them will have an impact on health — creating suffering that could be avoided. Toxic chemicals in plastic bottles, sunscreens, non-stick pans and garden pest sparys may be literally killing us.'

As well as the stories, the booklet includes source of further information and suggestions for action.
