Young Men and Suicide

Three times as many men are killing themselves as women and the suicide rate among young men has doubled in just 25 years.

The disturbing findings of this briefing paper received widespread media coverage following its launch at the House of Commons by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mental Health. The report draws attention to the lack of strategy in this area - only a handful of health authorities even have a suicide strategy - and shows how few intervention strategies have succeeded in reducing the numbers of deaths. The report concludes with a series of recommendations.
